FG Reaches Agreement With ASUU, Releases N15.4bn For Salary Shortfalls

The Federal Government has reached an agreement with members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resolve the on-going industrial action. Addressing journalists on Monday evening after the meeting with the striking lecturers in Abuja, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, said the majority of their demands have been met including the release of N15.4 billion for payment of salary shortfalls. According to him, the Federal Government is also in the process of releasing another N20 billion for payment of earned allowances for university lecturers. Accident claims life in Ibadan

A 54-year-old man, identified as Olanrewaju Adebayo, 54, was on Monday morning crushed to death by a sales truck of a soft drinking selling company at Oja’Oba, Ibadan. Metro news gathered that the incident happened at about 9.30am, with in front of Total filling station at Oja’ba, killing the man on the spot with his head crushed under the tyre of the truck. Customs seizes 9000 bags of rice in Ibadan

In another dramatic raid, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Oyo/Osun Command, has seized 9,000 bags of imported rice in a warehouse in a market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The Controller, Temitope Ogunkua, who vowed to stop illegal importation of goods, spoke yesterday at a briefing on the achievements recorded by the command in the last one year. Oyo suspends LG elections indefinitely

Oyo State Government has suspended the planned local government elections slated for February 11 following a court injunction obtained by 15 village heads in Oyo town. Ajimobi re-opens shut schools in Oyo, says LAUTECH to resume before Feb 1

GOVERNOR Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has stated that Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, would resume academic activities on or before February 1. Ibadan murder: Evidence tampered with, says IPO

An Investigating Police Officer (IPO), Oladejo Olayemi, yesterday said evidence was tampered with in the trial of a lawyer,Yewande Oyediran, who was accused of allegedly murdering her 38-year-old husband, Lowo. Olayemi said the knife that the suspect allegedly used in stabbing her husband could not produce accurate finger prints for evidence. Court remands 5 men for murder in Ibadan

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Tuesday remanded five men in prison custody for  alleged murder of two persons and arson. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Durosaro –Tijani, remanded them at Agodi Prisons, Ibadan, pending the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) . Abiodun Omoyeni, 22, Azeez Fatai, 25, Mustapha Rasheed , 17, Ismaila Soliu,32, and Sarafadeen Gbadamosi, 22, committed the offences on Dec.9, 2016 at Odinjo ,Ibadan. The Prosecutor , Insp.
