2013: police record 365 rape incidents in Oyo

The Oyo State Police command yesterday said it recorded 365 cases of rape last year. It said it secured conviction of about 1,078 accused persons who were involved in various crimes. The Police Commissioner, Mohammed Indabawa, spoke with reporters in Ibadan. Indabawa said 60,997 ammunition and cartridges as well as 103 arms were recovered from criminals. The police boss added that the command foiled 32 armed robbery attacks and 18 kidnap attempts. He added that 1098 bags of substances suspected to be Indian Hemp, which amounted to N18 million, were recovered last November. Indabawa said Governor Abiola Ajimobi, as the State Chief Executive Officer, acknowledged effective policing in the state in the year. He assured residents of result-oriented policing. On the casualty recorded, the police boss said the command lost a negligible number of his men on one or two occasions. He attributed the success to modern policing approaches.
