Obafemi Awolowo Stadium wears new look

THE Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan is now wearing a new look as the authorities of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Zone One, South-West have embarked on the clearing of surroundings within the arena.
There is fresh air in the stadium arena now as labourers were seen clearing the bushes around the stadium towards having a friendly ambience.
At the Lister (Ring Road) end of the stadium, one of the practice pitches used when Nigeria hosted the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 1999 can now be easily sighted as a result of the exercise.
Movement from the two entrance gates to the hostels within the stadium is now enhanced as shops occupants and passersby can now heave a sigh of relief especially at night.
Some of the footballers as well as athletes who always train at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, while speaking with Tribunesport, lauded the authorities for embarking on the exercise of making the stadium arena safe and clean.
Zonal Coordinator of NSC Zone One, South West, Dr Steve Olarinoye in a chat with Tribunesport said the exercise was in line with the directive of the Director General of NSC, Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye, which he passed during his visit to the stadium recently.
“After clearing all the bushes, we will engage in scrapping the ground and then beautify the whole arena to have a more friendly environment,” Olarinoye said.
