The management of the University of Ibadan (UI) says it will soon begin photo capturing and biometrics for undergraduate students of the university.

On May 29, students of the university had protested the inability of the management to provide identity cards for the past three semesters despite payments made by them.

They also protested an order by the management against the use of electrical kitchen appliances in the halls of residence.

After the protest, the university management had suspended the students’ union and student representative council of the university.

Idowu Olayinka, vice chancellor of the university had ordered the closure of the university on May 30 after the students’ protest. The school which was closed for 33 days as a result of the protest and academic activities had resumed on July 2.

According to a statement released on Thursday, July 27 and signed by F.O. Ogundare, director management information system of the university, the process will begin on August 2.

“This is to inform all undergraduate students on the above. The process involves capturing of photo, signature and biometric data,” the statement read.

“The table below shows the schedule of time for data capture on faculty basis, kindly make yourself available on any of your faculty days.”

Olatunji Oladejo, the university public relations officer, also confirmed the development.
