Oyo Assembly Wants A Federal Polytechnic Established In The State
The Oyo State House of Assembly has put machineries in motion to attract a federal polytechnic to the state in order to improve the level of technical education and enhance enormous human development. Presenting the motion, Hon. Afeez Adegbenga Adeleke, Representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju State Constituency, stated that he discovered that of all states in the South West geo-political zone it is only Oyo State that has no federal polytechnic. He added that with the status of the state as the political headquarters of the old Western Region and with second highest population figure after Lagos State, the absence of a federal polytechnic in the state amounts to marginalization.
Highlighting the advantages that will come with the creation of federal polytechnic in the state, Hon. Adeleke stated that apart from creating more employment opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths in the state, it will serve as an alternative fo young secondary school leavers in the state and the country at large with cheaper tuition fee.
He, therefore called on the House to quickly step up efforts and maximize the current wave of positive change at the federal level ,which has education as one of the cardinal programmes.
The House f Assembly, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Michael Adesina Adeyemo in a unanimous decision decided to write a letter to the Federal Ministry of Education to confirm the status of the proposition, if it has already been moved as some legislators claimed, and if not what step should be taken to follow the proposition.
In another development, the House passed a resolution on the motion moved by Hon. John Olaleru, the Deputy Chief Whip, representing Kajola State Constituency to urgently address the continual crisis between Fulani/Bororo herdsmen and local farmers in the state, especially at the areas like Oke Ogun, Oyo, Ibarapa and Ogbomoso.
The House resolved that all stakeholders, representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, community leaders, Baales, security agencies, Fulani leaders, Bororo leaders and leaders of local farmers to appear before at the house to proffer solutions to such crisis in the future.
