Assassination In Oyo Assembly: Panic Grips Members As Another Member Receives `Phone Call`
Oyo State House of Assembly Members are said to be sad that the young politician who was killed mercilessly was a `jolly good fellow` who related very well with everybody connected to the House of Assembly including cleaners and other very junior officers. On the other hand, members have started exhibiting signs of `panic and anxiety` since it got to their knowledge that the suspected assassins are still in possession of Hon Gideon Aremu`s telephone handsets.
An insider close to the officers of the House swore to PMParrot.com that a very serious development has `crept` up.
According to our source “Shortly after the assassins did their worst on Friday night, around midnight, one of them used one of the phones of Hon Gideon in their custody to call another member of the house, who is also a Labour Party member from outside Ibadan (names withheld). He called several times. When the man saw that the honourable would not pick his call, he sent a text message that the member should come and join him at a `caucus`meeting. He did this as if it was Hon Gideon that was sending the message.
“Unfortunately for the assassin, the Honourable member he sent the message to had already heard the news of the assassination of Gideon. So, he ignored the message and did not go anywhere but took cover.“
From what we gathered, members have started wondering why it was another member of the house that represents Labour Party that the assailants attempted to lure to another `rendezvous` so that they can, perhaps, take his own life too.
So many other questions are being asked by members without anybody ready to answer.
Meanwhile, feelers we got from members of Hon Gideon`s constituency at Oorelope Local Government Area indicated that they have constituted an informal committee that will approach the state government to demand for justice.
A member of the committee who spoke with PMParrot.com on the condition of anonymity said “We know our hero has been brutally assassinated. We demand to know the identities of those involved. We want them to be hastily apprehended and brought to justice otherwise, we will not be happy“.
In a related development, we were reliably informed that the leadership of the Oyo State House of Assembly has concluded arrangements to hold a special sitting in honour of the deceased on Monday, July 4, 2016.
This move, according to our investigation is to jump start the official investigation by the House into the remote and immediate reason the former key officer of the house was killed.
“It will also give members the opportunity to pay tributes to the fallen hero“ said our source.
In the meantime, the Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has expressed rude shock and consternation over Friday`s suspected assassination of Honorable Gideon Aremu at his Alakia residence in Ibadan. The death of the honourable member of the Oyo House of Assembly in the hands of suspected assassins at a relatively tender age is not only tragic but condemnable.
As soon as news of the sad event filtered into the knowledge of the governor, the Governor immediately got into contact with heads of all relevant security agencies including the police, state security services and the army to ensure that any and every one connected with the dastardly act is promptly apprehended and made to face the full weight of the judicial consequences of such sins against humanity.
The security chiefs have consequently thrown their dragnets wide open to immediately investigate, arrest and prosecute all the antisocial elements who connived to snuff out the promising life of such a compatriot and public officer.
While commiserating with the wife, children and family of the diseased Honorable Gideon Aremu who was a ranking member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, the Governor assured them and all the people of Oorelope State Constituency that justice will not only be seen to be done but will be done swiftly and thoroughly to ensure the repose of the soul of the good and committed patriot.
Governor Abiola Ajimobi, according to his spokesman, Yomi Layinka, once again reiterated his government’s commitment to sustaining the hard-won peace and security that the people of Oyo State currently enjoy warning anyone or group not to test his resolve in this direction.
As Chief Security Officer of the state, the governor has indicated his personal interest in getting to the bottom of the plot as well as in ensuring appropriate sanctions for both the plotters and executors of the suspect murder, no matter how highly placed.
