Ibadan North East Council Boss Increases Street Sweepers’ Allowances
In his determination to improve the well being of the people at the grass root level, the newly appointed Caretaker Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government area, Hon. Lekan Afuye has increased the monthly stipends of street sweepers in the council area from N5,000;00 per month to N8,000;00 per month. Hon. Lekan Afuye disclosed this during the inaugural meeting he held with the management and staff of the local government on Monday. He stated that the increment became imperative going by the current economic situation in the country so as to make the sweepers more comfortable as human beings.
While addressing the staff at the council hall, Iwo Road, Ibadan, Hon. Lekan Afuye explained that his administration will have zero tolerance for corruption, ineptitude and lateness to work among the workers, stressing that with the support of the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, he was ready to improve the living condition and welfare of the staff and bring development to the entire local government.
The Chairman, who pledged to operate an open door policy, however, called on the workers to change their mentality and attitude towards ‘government work’, stressing that he would organize seminars and workshops both locally and internationally for them in order to keep them abreast of modern technologies and ideas that will enhance their performances.
While Reacting on behalf of the entire staff of the council, the Head of Local Government Administration in Ibadan North East Local Government, Mrs Adenike Adisa expressed readiness of the staff and management to give unalloyed and maximum support to the new Chairman in his efforts at ensuring all round development through the provision of good quality service to complement the transformation agenda of Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
A special interdenominational prayer was conducted by Islamic and Christian religious leaders for the successful tenure of office for the Chairman, Hon. Lekan Afuye.
