Ajimobi gets Alaafin’s nod for second term
Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has received the blessing of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, for his second term in office. He received the manarch’s blessing on Thursday when he paid homage to his palace during the monarch’s 76th birthday celebration. Oba Adeyemi, while showering blessings on the governor, prayed for his success in his second term bid. “You have done well. I pray that God will grant you your heart’s desire. Your dream and ambitions will come true. I also pray that these buses procured for your campaign will not be involved in any accident,” he said.
Earlier in his remarks, the governor described the monarch as a quintessential traditional ruler and custodian of the tradition and culture of the entire Yoruba race. While acknowledging the efforts of the monarch at promoting unity and progress of the Yoruba race, Governor Ajimobi added that his contributions to the preservation and promotion of Yoruba culture both at home and in the diaspora were unquantifiable. “The monarch deserves our presence. We are here to celebrate an epitome of intelligence, culture and intellectualism in royalty.
“We are here to celebrate a quintessential traditional father of all, not only in Yorubaland, but also the whole of Nigeria. We are also here to celebrate an ambassador of culture,” he said. The governor said that his administration would not relent in its commitment to the promotion of traditional institution and welfare of traditional rulers, adding that the government had continued to provide dividends of democracy to all the nooks and crannies of the state.
