RESIDENTS and traders in various parts of Ibadan metropolis recently clamoured for the return of private waste contractors, to enhance the evacuation of refuse in the state. The Oyo State government recently said that its contract with private waste contractors had been terminated with effect from May 5. It added that the Oyo State Waste Management Authority (OYOWMA) now had the mandate tocollect waste, in line with its commitment to ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment. Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has reiterated commitment of his administration to harnessing the culture and tourism potentials of the state. Mr Adebayo Shittu, the Minister of Communications, has expressed confidence that he would succeed Gov. Abiola Ajimobi as governor of Oyo State in 2019. Some suspected members of a cult group at the Polytechnic Ibadan on Friday killed a student of the institution identified as Micheal Adeleke Olalade. The President, Association of Resident Doctors, University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan branch, Dr Olusegun Olaopa, said the eight day- old strike embarked upon by the doctors has been called off.
